Italian 7 and 7 Cocktail is made without whiskey, but it’s a variation you’ll grow to love!
Our growing family recently crossed the Hudson River and took a short drive into the isle of Manhattan for lunch with our cousin and his fiance. Cousin M. is a lover of food and the culinary world in NYC so we take his general advice on all things food related very seriously. Cousin M. suggested the restaurant Telepan on the Upper West Side for a two course, brunch themed, prix fixe and the food and company was lovely (including home smoked trout, homemade ricotta and agnolotti , french toast prepared with rhubarb, cucumber dill soup, etc.).
On the drink side, our table ordered a bloody mary, Aperol spritz, mimosa, and a specialty house drink called the Italian 7&7. The 7&7, with an Italian flare, featured good prosecco, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and, paradoxically, St. Germaine (a sweet liquor made in Paris and flavored, very delicately, with elderberries with a lychee aroma, including grapefruit and other citrus undertones). We’ve experimented in the paste with St. Germaine and enjoy it mixed with gin and fresh lime juice. The Italian 7&7 was enjoyed by Cousin M.’s fiance and we immediately rushed home to replicate the cocktail. Here’s the very easy recipe which we suggest making in large quantities for a brunch spread at your home (hint: invite your mother over for Mother’s Day!)
- 2 ounces of prosecco (cold)
- 1 ounce of St. Germaine
- 1 ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- Mix the ingredients with a spoon in a shaker and poor into a champagne flute. Enjoy cold.
